Founded in 1856, the National Portrait Gallery is home to the largest collection of portraiture in the world, featuring famous British men and women who have helped shape history from the Middle Ages to the present day.

By weaving together 500 years of history, art, biography and fame the Gallery offers a unique and fascinating insight into those individuals that together characterise a nation.

With over 1000 portraits on display across three floors, from Elizabeth I and William Shakespeare to The Beatles and David Beckham, the National Portrait Gallery has something for everyone.
